Shawna Akin, MLE, BFA

Shawna Akin, MLE, BFA, a master licensed aesthetician, Master Trainer for DermaConcepts, and owner of Institute for Advanced Aesthetics, Inc., specializing in advanced aesthetic education, training, and aesthetic practice business development. After retiring from a sixteen- year professional ballet career, she transitioned into a long and successful career as a master aesthetician in plastic surgery and dermatology practices in the Pacific Northwest. Throughout her aesthetic career, Shawna has served as an educator for international cosmeceutical companies, as well as, national aesthetic device manufacturers. A passionate and committed life- long student of aesthetics, Shawna has traveled the globe for her studies. In 2014, she had the privilege of meeting Dr. Des Fernandes in Cape Town SA. In addition, she has completed preceptorships in laser and light as well as medical needling from Dr. Patrick Bitters and Dr. Matthias Aust. Shawna holds advanced aesthetics certifications from Pastiche, UCLA Cosmetic Chemistry Extension Programs, and is NCEA Certified. Shawna is also a member of the Society for Cosmetic Chemists. In 2023, Shawna published The Skin Science Warrior in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Des Fernandes, Prof. Dr. Matthias Aust, Prof. Dr. Gary Fudem as well as Dr. Ernst Eiselen and Director of Education for DermaConcepts, Candace Noonan.
